THE Department of Education is to appeal an Equality Tribunal decision that claims it discriminated against two Leaving Cert students with dyslexia.

Both students had footnotes attached to their certificates stating they were not assessed in spelling and punctuation.

The female students sat the exam in 2001 and were supported by the Equality Authority in their claims of discrimination, which were upheld by the equality officer.
