ALMOST 60,000 people currently working in the voluntary and community sector in Ireland receive no work-supported pension and are working for inferior pay and under poor conditions.

As a result, most are quitting to seek better employment standards in the public and private sectors — leaving huge gaps in one of Ireland’s fastest-expanding employment areas.

Responsibility for the existing shortfalls was yesterday laid at the foot of the Government by trade unions, IMPACT and SIPTU.
