FAMILIES and businesses will pay an additional €1.4 billion in stealth taxes next year, claimed Fine Gael deputy leader and finance spokesman Richard Bruton.

He said, year on year, spending would increase in 2007 by 11.5%, over 3% above the growth in Government revenues.

“Those three points represent €1.4bn and will have to be collected in extra taxes no doubt hidden until well after the general election,” he said. “Once again in this year’s Estimates, we see a Government spending casually and leaving the taxpayer to pick up the tab.”
