Almanac 2007 predicts Decie glory
Old Moore’s Almanac has been published every year since 1764, providing information on everything from sunrise and sunset times to household hints and gardening tips.
As well as top sports tips for the year ahead, many social and political predictions are made for each month in the year ahead.
Most notably, perhaps, is the suggestion that a Government minister may resign unexpectedly in October, although there is no guess as to which party he or she might belong.
However, the much-anticipated general election will be called in late March or early April, if Old Moore’s Almanac is to be believed.
The predictions are the work of the Almanac’s astrologer Julian de Burgh, who also suggests that Britain’s Labour Party will fail to gain re-election in April, while US President George Bush will come under pressure to significantly amend his foreign policy in the same month.
Apart from Manchester United lifting the FA Cup in May — currently available at 5-1 with the bookies — and Waterford lifting the Liam McCarthy Cup in September, another good season is also predicted for the Munster rugby team.
But Toulouse are tipped to spoil their Heineken Cup defence at the last hurdle.
These are just a selection of the predictions made, with monthly weather forecast, from the stars suggesting an unusually cold start to February, an entire August of good weather and a new moon in early November bringing heavy flooding in parts of the west.
The Almanac was traditionally likely to be found in rural homes but the publisher’s recent survey of some of its 50,000 readers suggests there are growing numbers of city dwellers among its market.
Also included in the latest edition are listings of 2007 High Court sittings, festival dates, fishing seasons, tides, sunset and sunrise times, and many more interesting facts and figures.
The 2007 edition of Old Moore’s Almanac costs €4 at newsagents around the country.
