THE Dáil’s powerful Public Accounts Committee yesterday demanded to know if Revenue chiefs were “low-balling” taxpayers by deliberately underestimating how much the State would take from them each year.

PAC chairman Michael Noonan expressed alarm at the “astronomical” 30% increase in the tax yield over the past three years which he said was “grossly” higher than official predictions had indicated.

Mr Noonan asked Revenue chairman Frank Daly if taxpayers were being “deliberately low-balled” to keep them in the dark over how much they were going to have to part with during the year.
