Vintages from across world add to wine fair appeal

LIMERICK’S University Concert Hall is playing host to a different sort of music tomorrow night when the sound of Champagne corks and clinking glasses marks the second Limerick International Wine Fair.

Vintages from across world add to wine fair appeal

The fair, which runs from 7.30pm until late, allows consumers to taste all the latest vintages from all over the wine world. Tickets cost €25, with all proceeds going to the Daughters of Charity in Lisnagry.

Last year’s inaugural International Wine Fair raised over €18,500.

The order has been working in Limerick since 1952, and is committed to developing the potential of people with intellectual disabilities.

Charity chairman Richard Curtin said: “Last year, the money raised went towards a new special needs playground in Lisnagry. This year we are planning to put the proceeds towards refurbishing a recreational centre in Kilkee, Co Clare.”

The world’s classic regions are well represented at the fair. France is providing wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire and the Côte du Rhône. There are also wines from a host of other denominations right across Europe, including some of the new discoveries such as the Albarino from Terras Gaudas (Spain). The new world is also well represented by top-class operations such as Torreon de Paredes (Chile) and Seifried Estate (New Zealand).
