BARNARDOS says it can work with the Government to draw up an acceptable constitutional change to put the best interests of the child at the heart of all public policy.

It has proposed inserting a section into the constitution which would give the rights of the child special status above the family and give privileged position to more vulnerable children.

While the Government has yet to decide on the wording of next year’s referendum, comments so far have favoured altering a number of different articles.
