Tough new laws to offer protection for workers

THE Government will this morning approve new laws to protect employees from future Irish Ferries-type dismissals.

Employment Minister Micheál Martin will present provisions to Cabinet designed to prevent companies circumventing Irish labour law.

The two provisions will be contained in forthcoming employment legislation. It will impose tougher standards on employment agencies, and establish statutory codes of practice.
