Seizures of fireworks fail to yield any convictions

GARDAÍ seized nearly €500,000 worth of illegal fireworks in 126 separate seizures last year, but failed to secure any convictions.

Figures from the Department of Justice show a similar story for previous years. Between 2000 and this month, just 13 prosecutions have been initiated despite hundreds of seizures. Not one of the prosecutions has yet yielded a conviction.

So far this year, there were 42 seizures of fireworks with a combined value of €104,876.
