FG seeks zero-tolerance crackdown on drivers

Party leader Enda Kenny wants the blood-alcohol limit reduced for provisional licence holders and those who have held full licences for less than two years. He is proposing that the limit for these drivers be cut from 0.8 (80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood) to 0.2 (20 milligrams).

This would be as close as the State could come to setting a zero level while allowing for innocuous substances which could register at a very low scale on a breathalyser test, such as cough medicines.
