Prison officers earn highest weekly wage

PRISON officers earned the highest average weekly wage of all the country’s workers last year, figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.

According to the CSO figures, a prison officer earned €1,118 a week — just over twice the average weekly wage of €557 across all sectors.

Gardaí ranked second in the earnings table, bringing home €1,097 per week, while the next highest paid were workers in the energy sector, mainly electricity and gas, who earned on average €1,005.
