STAFF in centres for children unsuited to mainstream schools are often subject to abuse and violent behaviour, Department of Education inspectors have found.

Their evaluations of three youth encounter projects (YEPs) found that students in two of them have no access to the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS).

The reports, published yesterday, praise staff for helping to improve students’ behaviour and their educational achievements.
