WOMEN who choose private over public hospital care when pregnant tend to have a higher satisfaction rating with the service they receive throughout their pregnancy and during childbirth.

They are also more likely to have their first antenatal check-up earlier than other women and have the shortest time to wait for their appointments.

On average, a woman who goes private has her first check-up at eight weeks whereas public and semi-private patients wait 10 weeks and 10.4 weeks, respectively. She is also more likely to feel satisfied with the number of antenatal check-ups she had.
