One in 10 discharged in less than a day

ONE in 10 mothers is back at home less than a day after giving birth, according to the survey.

The proportion who say they were sent home from hospital too soon also works out at one in 10, although it is not necessarily the same women who are represented in each group.

Short stays are common throughout the survey, which shows that 27% of mothers spend just one to two days in hospital. Although that means they could have a bed for a full 48 hours, they may also spend as little as 25 hours under hospital care.
