ONE in ten expectant mothers have an ultrasound to view the progress of their baby in the womb every time they have a check-up.

Overall, the use of technology to monitor mother and baby during pregnancy and delivery is high, despite complaints from some scientists about a lack of studies of the equipment’s effects on unborn children.

Half of all mothers have two or three ultrasound scans and one in five have four or five. One in seven mothers say they’ve had only one ultrasound and one in 100 say they’ve had none.
