Brother will recall Meg’s life as she is laid to rest
James Walsh and Meg’s daughter Sasha last night stood by her coffin as hundreds of mourners filed past for over two hours at a north Cork hospital.
The 35-year-old’s coffin was closed and upon it there was a photograph of her. At 7pm, the mourners gathered inside and outside the small mortuary chapel fell silent as prayers were said over the coffin. It was then carried to the waiting hearse by relatives and friends.
A garda escort accompanied the funeral cortege for the 14-mile journey to the Church of St Nicholas in Killavullen.
As the hearse pulled up in front of the church, Meg’s daughter Sasha was accompanied by James Walsh into the church where they joined relatives in the front pews.
During the 20-minute service, parish priest Fr Dan Gould offered prayers for the family and led the congregation in a decade of the Rosary. Afterwards, Meg’s husband, John O’Brien, was accompanied from the church grounds by gardaí, who shielded him from the waiting photographers. He declined to make any comment to reporters before climbing into his car.
Meg will be buried in Bweing Cemetery following noon Mass at the Church of St Nicholas today.
