Three out of 1,000 child sex cases successfully prosecuted

ONLY three out of every 1,000 sex crimes against children results in a successful criminal prosecution, a report by a leading charity shows.

Colm O’Gorman, the director of One in Four — an organisation which assists victims of sexual abuse — claimed the low level of reporting the perpetrators of such crimes represented “the greatest bar to child protection and abuse prevention” in Ireland.

Mr O’Gorman also called for the mandatory treatment for convicted sex offenders to be made part of sentencing policy by the courts.
