Schools outside speed limits

UP to 80 primary schools in Kerry are outside the protection of the county’s 50 to 60 km/h speed limit zones, it was disclosed yesterday.

It would cost Kerry County Council €20,000 per school to install speed limit systems with flashing message lights, however, a council meeting heard in Tralee.

The National Roads Authority (NRA) came under fire for not agreeing to council submissions calling for such systems outside two schools, respectively on the busy national routes between Killarney and Dingle, and Tralee and Dingle, at Fybagh and Derrymore.
