FOUR out of 10 elderly people in Ireland are at risk of poverty, a new EU survey has found.

The survey found Ireland had the second highest poverty risk for elderly people after Cyprus whose risk rate was 52%.

Spain had the third highest rate at 30%, followed by Portugal (29%), Greece (28%) and Britain and Northern Ireland (24%).
