Mystery over fate of missing Polish man

GARDAÍ in Killarney are baffled by the disappearance almost a month ago of a Polish man who failed to return to his flat near the town centre, leaving his passport and personal belongings behind.

Dariusz Giera, married and in his early 40s, is a member of a large Polish community in Killarney. He was reported missing by his flat-mates on August 20.

He had worked with a number of construction companies but had recently changed jobs and was not employed at the time of his disappearance.

Sgt Tom Tobin of Killarney said inquiries within the local Polish community and in Cork were being carried out, but had so far yielded no information.

Gardaí have ascertained that there have been no withdrawals from Mr Giera’s bank accounts since he went missing.

His wife lives in Poland.

The Polish embassy has been made aware of the situation and information about him has been circulated to garda stations around the country.

More than 1,000 Polish people live in the Killarney area and work mainly in the hotel and construction industries and at Munster Joinery in Ballydesmond.
