Parents advised on dangers of results celebration
The Killarney Drugs Liaison Committee is sending 350 copies of an awareness/information pack to parents and a further 50 to pubs and off-licence owners in the town.
The move coincides with the release of the exam results, next Wednesday.
“There are times when parents need to be extra-vigilant and this is one of them,” said committee chairman Sean O’Grady.
It was unfortunate, he added, that a small minority of outlets still sold alcohol to minors.
The message of the pack is summed up in what Mr O’Grady described as the five As — aware, awake, available, assertive and around.
The Killarney Drugs Liaison Committee has been active on the ground for several years and has also been focussing on drugs problems in local housing estates.
The pack was launched by Kerry mayor Sheila Casey.
