East Cork set for €100m housing development

The largest of the two Carrigtwohill planning applications lodged with Cork County Council yesterday was from Bantry-based builders Murnane & O’Shea.

They are proposing to build 285 homes, plus a play area, landscaped open areas and a bring centre.

Rossdale Enterprise Ltd, which is locally based, is seeking permission for 61 two- and three-storey houses as well as 22 duplex apartments at Station Road, Carrigtwohill.

Meanwhile, after weeks of speculation Bord Gais has finally submitted an application for a 440 megawatt gas-fired power station at Corkbeg, Whitegate. This comes just 24 hours after Dublin-based company Mountlawn was refused permission by An Bord Pleanála for a similar development, this time in Little Island.

D&J Builders have lodged an application for 35 houses in Rathpeacon, while developer Martin Ahern is seeking the go-ahead for 25 at Dromina.

Michael Houlihan and Brian O’Neill are proposing to construct a mix of 30 homes and some retail units at Killeen, Crossbarry.

John A Wood is seeking to continue its quarrying at Carrigshane, Midleton, while O2 wants to erect a 24 metre-high mast at Clashnarinka, Castlemartyr.

John Fleming Construction Ltd has got the green light from county council planners to proceed with 31 homes on Inchydoney Island, while an offshoot company, Cityking International will be able to carry out alterations to the clubhouse at Fota Golf Club and construct a new dining pavilion and pro-shop.

Meanwhile, An Bord Pleanála yesterday refused Farraannahinney Windfarm Ltd permission to build five 60 metre-high wind turbines and a electrical substation near Dunmanway. The county council also decided not to allow C&J Developments to proceed with 11 houses at Aherla.
