Living the high life in luxury: new tower to be Ireland’s tallest
Detailed plans for Ireland’s tallest building, which will include some of the most luxurious and possibly some of the most expensive apartments built outside Dublin, were unveiled in Cork last night.
The 17-storey 71-metre high landmark tower, which is being built in Cork city centre, will, once completed in mid-2008, be Ireland’s tallest building, topping County Hall by six metres. Work on The Elysian tower has already started on a three-acre site on Eglinton Street.
The name is taken from the ancient Greek Elysian Fields which were said to resemble paradise and be a source of great happiness.
Residents of the tower will certainly live the high life. Developer Michael O’Flynn has promised a “tranquil living environment of trees and water features in the central garden square”.
The €150 million tower will have 211 luxury apartments with underground parking for 553 cars in a two-storey basement. Apartment owners will be offered two car parking spaces each.
The luxury apartments come with one, two or three bedrooms, ranging in size from 600 square feet up to 2,400 square feet for the three bedroom penthouse.
Prices for the apartments, and the car parking spaces, are not expected to be unveiled for at least another year.
However, on street parking spaces in the city centre have been snapped up in recent months for up to €15,000 each. A concierge facility will be in place and all apartments will have direct access to their cars by lifts.
The development will also have shops at ground floor level, with offices, a crèche and gym.
Details are available from selling agents Sherry FitzGerald.
“We’re talking about luxurious apartments, some up to 2,400 sq ft in size,” said Trish Stokes of Sherry Fitzgerald.
“They will have high ceilings and large private balconies overlooking a unique, elevated garden square.”
