LABOUR last night insisted Education Minister Mary Hanafin must get tough on schools shunning children from immigrant families and introduce regulations to prevent the practice.

The party’s education spokesperson Jan O’Sullivan said plans for snapshot audits to monitor school enrolments do not go far enough.

Ms Hanafin announced the audit move as a way of heading-off potential “ghettoisation” of ethnic groups in the educational system.
