Man quizzed over death of homeless man
The man was arrested at his home, in Tralee, at 11.25pm, yesterday, and is being detained under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
His period of detention was extended for a further six hours last evening.
Supt Pat Sullivan, who is leading the investigation into the killing of Eddie Joe Clancy, said further arrests were not being ruled out.
Steady progress with the investigation is reported.
Supt Sullivan thanked the public for their co-operation with the investigation.
It is understood examination of CCTV film from the Bridge Street area of Tralee, where the late Mr Clancy was found lying in a pool of blood shortly before 2am on Tuesday, is of key assistance to the investigation.
Cameras on business premises in Bridge Street, as well as the gardaí’s own cameras, have identified a number of people who were in the area at the time of the attack on Mr Clancy.
A number of people may have been involved in the assault, as result of which Mr Clancy sustained serious head injuries.
He died soon afterwards in Kerry General Hospital, Tralee.
The attack took place close to the heart of Tralee and in an area that’s popular with late night socialisers. Several people were in the area at the time of the attack.
Mr Clancy came from the Lohercannon area of Tralee and had been homeless for some years.
He was well-known to gardaí and to local people. He had several convictions for offences relating to drugs and drunkenness.
