Gender imbalance: girls outdo boys again

GIRLS have once again outperformed boys in most Leaving Certificate subjects this year, State Examinations Commission figures reveal.

A higher proportion of male students got honours in just four subjects at higher level: construction studies, engineering, agricultural economics and Italian.

In 28 of the remaining 29 subjects for which results have been provided, a higher proportion of girls got As and honours grades than their male counterparts.
