AN officer at Limerick prison is being tested for HIV after being spattered with blood while breaking up a brawl among inmates.

Samples were taken from the staff member following the fight.

Tests are being carried out for HIV, hepatitis A and hepatitis B after he came into contact with blood from brawling prisoners.
