Rugby-mad couple come to Limerick to tie the knot
Yesterday they travelled from the valleys with nearly 50 family and friends to line out at the city registry office.
After the brief civil marriage, they headed off to Tom and Jerry’s pub in Glentworth Street for a big Welsh party that went on late into the night.
Louise, 26 and Anthony, 36 are both from the small village of Treharris in South Wales.
Anthony said: “I’ve been over to Limerick a number of time with friends for big rugby games at Thomond Park and we have made many friends here in Limerick over the years”.
Father of the bride, Michael Morgan said: “I could not have picked a finer rugby city than Limerick in which to give my only daughter away on her wedding day. The owner of the bar, Gerry Purcell has laid on a great buffet reception for us and we greatly appreciate this Limerick hospitality.”
Gerry Purcell popped champagne when the couple arrived.
He said: “Rugby fans from South Wales have been coming to Limerick for years. When Wales are playing Ireland at Lansdowne Road they come to Limerick to get the real rugby atmosphere. We have made some great friends over the years and we were delighted to host the wedding party for Louise and Anthony.”
Best man, Jonathan Griffiths said he was delighted the wedding was held in Limerick.
He said: “We have all come over from the one village and we are all neighbours”.
Another guest, Stephen Thomas said he has been to Limerick on numerous occasions.
Stephen said: “I love coming over for the big games at Thomond Park and have made a lot of friends here”.
