Garda Reserve to begin recruitment campaign

A RECRUITMENT campaign for the new Garda Reserve will get under way next week after regulations were drawn up to govern the part-time force, it was confirmed yesterday.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell confirmed the Garda Siochána (Reserve Members) Regulations 2006 would guide the recruitment, training and appointment of the reserve members to assist gardaí.

Advertisements will be placed in newspapers and on the radio from Monday as part of the recruitment campaign, despite opposition to the plans from the Garda Representative Association (GRA) and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI).
