Gardaí probe motorbike death

A GARDAÍ investigation has been launched after a man died in a motorcycle accident on the Malahide Road, Coolock, Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

The 35-year-old was killed when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a car shortly before 4pm.

The pillion passenger suffered a leg injury and was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was also taken to Beaumont Hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The gardaí were responding to a report of a motorcycle acting suspiciously when the accident happened.

Garda Commissioner, Noel Conroy, has appointed a senior officer to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

However a gardaí spokeswoman said that the garda car which responded to the report of suspicious activity had not come across the motorcycle at the time of the incident.

Last night, the area around the crash scene remained cordoned off as members of the Fatal Traffic Collision Investigation Unit gathered information.
