WORKING parents on the minimum wage face bills of up to €1,350 for uniforms and books for each child at school but are entitled to no State help to meet these rising expenses, the Labour Party has claimed.

The party’s consumer affairs spokesperson Kathleen Lynch said a couple both earning the national minimum wage would not qualify this year for any financial support for clothing, footwear or books.

A Labour Party survey published yesterday put the cost of putting one primary school pupil and one second-level student through school for a year at up to €2,176.
