Irishman dies in US lake drowning tragedy

AN Irish citizen living in the US has drowned in a swimming accident.

The body of the man, named by US authorities as Derek McGovern, 32, who lived in Roslindale, Boston, Massachusetts, was recovered by divers on Sunday evening in the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee in the neighbouring state of New Hampshire.

Mr McGovern had been boating on the lake with three friends on Saturday afternoon when two of them jumped into the water for a swim. They were pushed away from the boat by winds and, while his companion made it back to safety, Mr McGovern got into difficulties.
