FINE GAEL last night called for a ban on foreign food being sold as genuine Irish produce.

Consumers are buying foreign-produced meat and vegetables in the mistaken belief the food is Irish produce, Fine Gael said.

A European Union law allows food producers to pass off overseas produce as genuinely Irish if the food is processed in Ireland.
