DON’T dig out the winter woollies just yet.

Fun in the sun as temperatures set to rise again

Despite the blustery, showery start to the peak holiday season, the weather is about to improve again, with more sunshine forecast from Wednesday. But we won’t see an immediate return to the record temperatures of early July.

Until mid-week though, it looks more like cinema weather for the tens of thousands of families beginning their traditional summer break in Ireland.

Those hoping to follow the sunshine from mid-week should probably steer clear of the West and Northwest where it will be cloudier and cooler.

Met Éireann forecaster Jerry Scully said it’s not all bad news for the week ahead. And good weather might even extend across the bank holiday weekend.

“The first couple of days of this week are going to be unsettled, particularly Monday. But it will brighten up from Tuesday onwards when the winds will dip and we can expect improved sunshine levels.

“It’s difficult to know whether or it will last into the weekend. With a bit of luck, it might,” he said.

Those who have shelled out for holidays abroad are also experiencing a mixed bag weather-wise. In Tenerife, holiday-makers will experience a mix of sunshine and cloud with temperatures of around 27°C.

In France temperatures of around 25°C are anticipated. In Portugal, it’s going to be sunny with temperatures close to 36°C.

In Spain, temperatures are expected to hit 37°C today.
