942 on sex offenders register

THE number of offenders on the sex register has trebled to 942 in the last three years, while in the North the figure is 700.

Statistics compiled by gardaí and the Northern Ireland Sex Offender Management Committee show numbers in the Republic have almost trebled since March 2003, when the register contained 338 names.

Since May 5 last, the number has risen by 35 from 907, a rate of at least one addition every two days.
