SOME of the south-east’s brightest sparks are Korea-bound next month to fly the European flag at one of the world’s most coveted science events.

The award-winning Centre for the Advancement of Learning of Maths, Science and Technology (CALMAST) at Waterford Institute of Technology has been selected to represent Europe at Korea’s largest science festival, in Daejeon, central South Korea, 167km from Seoul.

WIT director, Professor Kieran R Byrne said the groups selection to represent Europe was fitting recognition of the work done by CALMAST’s joint managers Dr Sheila Donegan and Eoin Gill over the last three years.
