WORK truly is the curse of the drinking classes, a study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has found.

Hard workers ‘unhealthier  but drink less’

And women who work long hours are more likely than men to indulge in unhealthy behaviours such as snacking, smoking and drinking caffeine, the study discovered.

Researcher Dr Daryl O’Connor said: “The one clear positive impact of working long hours for both sexes is that alcohol consumption is reduced.”
