FF denies McDaid set for comeback

SENIOR Fianna Fáil sources yesterday firmly dismissed suggestions that the party wants former junior minister Jim McDaid to stand as a candidate in Donegal North East.

There have been persistent reports that Dr McDaid may be reconsidering his decision to retire from politics next year in response to Independent Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney joining the party.

Mr Blaney is expected to announce in the next week that his organisation will merge with Fianna Fáil, over 30 years after his uncle Neil Blaney split from the party.
