Fab Four get in the party mood for EuroStar
For Ireland’s latest boy band has been formed and wants to prove that unlikely coalitions don’t always hit bum notes.
For four politicians from four different parties will be representing the Oireachtas on RTÉ’s Celebrity EuroStar in August.
Three of the fabulous four are from Cork — Labour Senator Michael McCarthy, Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher and Green Party TD, Dan Boyle. Boyle, the Cork South Central deputy, is the only one with a bit of real form — he was the bassist with legendary Cork new wave band Blueprint in the 1980s.
The quartet is completed by Roscommon Fine Gael crooner, Senator Frankie Feighan, whose warbling has been the star turn at all his party’s gatherings.
The group held its first rehearsals yesterday. True to form, this cross-party initiative has so far failed to agree on a name, on what songs it will sing and which charity will benefit.
There’s no shortage of possible names. The Untouchables. The Unmentionables. That Shower. The ‘Political Village’ People. The Bleaters.
And as for songs, the repertoire could include: the Stone Roses’ I Wanna be Adored; a cover of The Happy Mondays’ 24 Hour Party People and Cliff Richard’s We’re all Going on a (Three-Month) Summer Holiday.
One thing is for sure — whether they are in tune or not, the four heartthrobs will not be shy about asking the public for votes.
