HOSPITALS across Ireland are turning to Britain to fill vacancies ranging from directors of nursing to midwives and general nurses.

Offering salaries comparable to British health service rates, hospitals are also offering relocation allowances, help in registering with the Nursing Board, permanent contracts and training. Among advertisers in Britain’s Royal College of Nursing jobs journal is the Health Service Executive, which is hunting for a €68,195-a-year director of public health nursing for Laois and Offaly.

Dublin’s St Vincent’s University Hospital is offering €28,174 to €41,136 to attract four full-time staff nurses. St Joseph’s Hospital in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, is looking for a director of nursing and is offering a salary of up to €104,535.

The Cavan and Monaghan Hospital Group is trying to tempt an assistant director of nursing and midwifery with a package worth up to €72,371.
