Lack of warden gives litter bugs carte blanche

ONE of the south-east’s busiest tourist towns does not have a litter warden at present and local councillors say its giving unscrupulous locals and visitors to the area a carte blanche to litter.

Lack of warden gives litter bugs carte blanche

Tramore’s litter warden is on extended sick leave. Local councillor Lola O’Sullivan said over the June Bank Holiday Weekend the litter situation in the seaside town hit “crisis point”.

She wants the town council and county council to take emergency action to prevent a repeat of the situation as the good weather continues and visitor numbers to Tramore swell.

“We have to ensure that Tramore looks its best and that enough resources are available during the summer months,” she said.

Town manager Brian White said everything possible is being done to maintain the town to the highest standards.

“Tramore experienced an exceptional weekend last weekend. It was the busiest ever in Tramore. Sometimes a sign of litter is a sign of activity. There’s many a resort that would like to have a sign of activity like that after a bumper weekend,” he said.
