Assault victim fights for life after being dragged from house and beaten
Neighbours and children out playing saw the victim being dragged virtually naked out of a house onto a green and hit a number of times. The incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon in the Dublin suburb of Drimnagh.
The man, aged 44, who was only wearing his underpants at the time, was brought to St James’s Hospital. His condition deteriorated overnight and he was taken to intensive care, where his condition is said to be very serious.
Gardaí confirmed an assault took place on the man at Benmadigan Road last Tuesday week.
It’s believed the man who carried out the assault is a brother of a woman currently charged with murder. It’s thought that the woman had a row with the female occupant of the house the previous week over a personal matter.
There were a number of men drinking in the house when the woman’s brother entered. A row broke out and the brother dragged one of men out of the house across a road and onto a large green where he assaulted him.
Neighbours alerted gardaí while an ambulance took the injured party to hospital.
In a separate incident, a young man is recovering after being seriously assaulted in Dublin city centre. The man, in his 20s, lost a significant amount of blood in the attack, which occurred early last Saturday morning on Ormond Quay.
“There was a substantial loss of blood in the assault,” said a garda spokesman. “We were very concerned about him Saturday morning, because he had internal bleeding and swelling, but his condition is improving greatly.”
He said progress was being made in the investigation and gardaí in Bridewell Station had a number of suspects in mind.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Crumlin, South Dublin, are investigating an attempted armed robbery on a post office. Two raiders were in the process of getting through the roof of the post office on Old County Road at 9am last Tuesday when office staff heard them.
They immediately secured the office and fled, alerting gardaí. Gardaí arrested one man. They are searching for the second person.
