€7m stolen in robberies last year but only 1% recovered

LESS than 1% of cash stolen in robberies last year has been recovered so far, new figures show.

More than €7 million in cash was taken in various forms of robberies in the first 10 months of 2005.

But gardaí have only managed to recover €33,000 to date, according to official statistics. Detectives have brought charges in 345 cases and have so far secured convictions in 60.
