FORMER Taoiseach Albert Reynolds received a double honour at Dublin Castle yesterday for his work to improve health services.

Double honour for Reynolds

The event was organised by the Children for Children and Adult Care Foundation to thank Mr Reynolds for advancing the use of telemedicine in hospitals.

Mr Reynolds was also thanked for paving the way for peace on the island of Ireland and for his concern for people in need.

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland also announced it had decided to award Mr Reynolds with the Stern Medal for his contribution to medicine.

It was first presented to Princess Margurite of the Netherlands in 1982 for her leadership of the Red Cross. The second recipient was Dr Catherine Molloy, especially for her work in relation to the blood bank.

College registrar Dr Gerry McElvaney said the award would be presented to Mr Reynolds later this year.
