BALDING candidates have been given lavish wigs; the clean-shaven have received beards and moustaches. Others appear as punk rockers while some are one-eyed monsters.

Some people in Kerry have been having fun at the expense of candidates and their posters, by distorting the faces, adding artistic touches and, occasionally, scrawling unflattering slogans.

Candidates are not a bit amused at the defacing of their posters and gardaí, who have received complaints, are treating such incidents as malicious damage. Many candidates are angry that their colourful picture posters projecting them at their smiling best and which can cost up to €30 each have been sprayed and sometimes torn down, usually at night time.
