A CORK county councillor tried to make history by becoming the first elected representative to use a computer to access official reports during a formal local authority meeting — but failed miserably.

Councillors were issued with laptop computers four years ago, free of charge, so they could call up official reports at the click of a button.

However, it seemed that nobody tried until last Monday, to see if the computers would work at County Hall, where they conduct most of their business.
