A FOUR-MEMBER independent commission set up to monitor paramilitary activity said yesterday it is considering issuing a report specifically on the attempted abduction of dissident republican Bobby Tohill in Belfast.

The Independent Monitoring Commission, set up by the British and Irish Governments last year, is to consider whether it should issue an “ad-hoc report” on the attempted kidnapping of Mr Tohill from a Belfast city centre bar.

The governments had asked the commission to bring forward its first report on paramilitary activity following concerns about IRA involvement in the incident.
