Taxpayers face €70m compo bill for State security

THE taxpayer faces a potential bill of €70 million from compensation claims involving the gardaí, the Defence Forces and the Prison Service.

New figures show the three sectors account for 75% of all personal injury and property damage cases being taken against the State.

The State Claims Agency (SCA) said it faced an overall potential bill of €93m from claims involving employer liability, public liability and property damage.
