Women say sky is the limit in business
Limerick City Enterprise Board and the Limerick branch of the women’s business organisation Network Ireland launched the city’s inaugural Business Week with the help of Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea.
Gaye Moore, president of the Limerick branch of Network Ireland, said: “We have organised a very comprehensive programme which will enable people to network and meet with mentors who can give advice on certain dos and don’ts.
“Our goal with Limerick Business Week is to enable people with ideas to reach for the sky.”
Limerick City Enterprise Board assistant chief executive Margaret Ryan said Limerick Business Week was the first of its kind organised in this country.
“We have had a huge response which shows the willingness of Limerick business people to row in with it,” said Ms Ryan.
The various events, which run until Saturday, will provide information to people who already have a business and want to expand, want to find out about how to franchise or even branding a business idea of their own.
“Participants will be able to network at the various sessions and learn from others who have gone down the business path on their own,” said Ms Moore, who opened The Wedding Shop, in Thomas Street, with a partner 12 years ago.
“We do bridal gowns, bridesmaid gowns, flower girl dresses and all the accessories such as invitation cards. We also co-ordinate with florists,” she said.
At the official opening of the event, Mr O’Dea said: “This is a tremendous concept, encouraging people to set up on their own in business.”
