Bank heist van crossed Border hours before raid

Details of the van’s movements were given by police as the political implications of the IRA being blamed for the robbery by Chief Constable Hugh Orde were being debated by politicians at Westminster.

Detective Superintendent Andy Sproule appealed to the public for more information about the white Ford Transit box van used in the robbery. He said the van, registration number RCZ 6632, was on the Newry-Forkhill road travelling northbound on the afternoon of the robbery.
